Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known for romantic and comedic novels critiquing British society at the end of the 18th Century. She achieved modest success during her lifetime but her books have rarely (if ever) been out of print, and several have been subsequently made into popular movies and TV series.
