Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930) was a British writer and a qualified physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes, a well-loved milestone in crime fiction, who features in several novels and short story collections. He also wrote a series of books featuring Professor Challenger, and commented “If in 100 years I am only known as the man who invented Sherlock Holmes, then I will have considered my life a failure.”
