Aesop (c. 620–564 BCE) was a Greek storyteller credited with a large collection of fables, many of which feature anthropomorphic animal characters. Although there is very little clarity or evidence regarding the life of Aesop, he is commonly thought to have been a strikingly ugly slave whose cleverness bought him his freedom and eventually led him to become an adviser to kings and city-states.
